About Brainoa
What makes Brainoa different from supplements?
Brainoa isn't trying to be a supplement you have to choke down. It's a ritual you actually want to make time for. While most supplements focus only on delivering active ingredients, we believe nourishment should feel nourishing—physically and emotionally. That's why we combined neuroscience-backed botanicals with real cocoa and comforting warmth. It's brain health that tastes like a hug, not homework.
What's in it?
Real dutched cocoa plus seven researched ingredients: magnesium, reishi mushroom, ashwagandha, L-theanine, glycine, chamomile and passion flower, dosed at the levels used in research. Coconut milk powder adds creaminess, with a pinch of pink Himalayan salt and a touch of stevia leaf extract. No melatonin, no added sugars, no artificial or fake flavors.
How does it taste?
Like the cocoa you remember, but grown up. Rich, naturally chocolatey, with a subtle earthiness from the adaptogens that feels grounding rather than medicinal. It's not candy-sweet (we don't add sugar), but it has a gentle, dark chocolate, round flavor that invites you to slow down.
Why is sleep such an important part of brain health?
Sleep is when your brain does its housekeeping, clearing waste, storing memories, resetting the mood, and recharging your energy for the next day. Do you know that forced sleep deprivation is actually considered a violation of human rights by the United Nations? Without enough quality rest, even the best nutrition or mindfulness routine can only do so much. We created Brainoa because when the brain rests well, everything feels calmer and clearer.
Using Brainoa
How do I make it?
Add one tablespoon to a mug. Pour about 2 oz of hot water over the powder and stir well. Top with 4 oz of hot water or milk (dairy or oat both work), or with cold water or milk and ice. Pouring the liquid over the powder dissolves it better and gives you the full hot-chocolate brew. No frother needed.
When should I drink it?
Whenever you're ready to shift gears from doing to being. Most people enjoy Brainoa about an hour before bed, as part of their wind-down routine. But there's no strict rule. If your body craves calm in the late afternoon or after dinner, listen to it. The key is consistency. Your nervous system learns to recognize the ritual, and over time, that first sip becomes a signal: it's safe to rest now.
Can I drink this every night?
Yes. Brainoa was made for nightly rituals you can look forward to, and consistency is what makes it work. Think of it as your moment of calm before rest.
How soon will I notice a difference?
First night, a calmer wind-down. First week, a new sleep ritual your body starts to recognize. First month, better sleep and recharged mornings with nightly use. Results vary, and consistency is what makes it work.
Will this help me fall asleep or stay asleep?
Both, but in the gentlest way. Brainoa isn't about "knocking you out." It's about helping your body and mind remember how to relax. Magnesium, ashwagandha and reishi mushroom work together to calm stress and support restorative sleep. You may notice you drift off more easily and wake fewer times during the night.
Will drinking this improve my sleep quality and energy over time?
Yes, many people notice deeper, more consistent rest after a week or two. The adaptogens and botanicals in Brainoa, like reishi and chamomile, nourish your sleep pathways gradually. With time, your mornings may feel clearer and calmer, the kind of rested energy where coffee feels optional.
Will this drink make me groggy the next day?
Not at all. There's no melatonin in Brainoa, just nutrients that gently relax your nervous system. That means you'll wake feeling refreshed, not foggy.
Is Brainoa right for me?
Does Brainoa have caffeine? What about theobromine?
A little of both, because Brainoa is made with real cocoa, and cocoa naturally contains caffeine and theobromine, a gentler cousin of caffeine. We don't add either one. Each tablespoon has about 7mg of caffeine (in the range of a cup of decaf coffee, and less than a tenth of a regular cup), and about 60mg of theobromine (roughly a quarter of what's in an ounce of dark chocolate).
For most people, that's too little to notice. But sensitivity varies. If chocolate in the evening has ever kept you up, or if even a square of dark chocolate at night is too much for you, Brainoa may not be the right fit, and we'd rather tell you that now.
Can I take it with medication, while pregnant, or give it to kids?
Brainoa is made for adults. Some of its botanicals can interact with certain medications, so if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a medical condition, please check with your doctor before adding Brainoa to your routine. Keep out of reach of children.
Is it vegan? What about allergens?
Brainoa is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and non-GMO. It contains coconut, from the coconut milk powder. The FDA no longer classifies coconut as a tree nut, but if you're allergic to coconut, Brainoa isn't for you.
Is there added sugar? Why is there sugar on the nutrition label?
No added sugars. The 1 g of sugar on the label occurs naturally in the ingredients. A tiny amount of stevia leaf extract gives it gentle sweetness. Like it sweeter? Add honey, maple syrup or your favorite sweetener.
From our kitchen
What’s your favorite way to prepare Brainoa?
I, Cleo, love it simple with just hot water since I’m lactose intolerant. Hamilton likes to mix hot water with a splash of whole milk for extra creaminess. We both enjoy drinking it while it’s hot and without sugar. We’d love to hear how you prepare yours. Maybe a pinch of cinnamon, a drop of vanilla extract, or using oat milk?
How does your evening ritual look?
After dinner, we dim the lights as a cue to our bodies (and to our daughter Stella) that the day is wrapping up. After tucking Stella in, we prepare a mug of Brainoa Sleep hot cocoa while we share a little bit about our day. In the bedroom, we keep the lights dimmed. I, Cleo, enjoy reading biographies. Hamilton loves audiobooks. We like to drift into our dreams, letting our thoughts wander about the stories we are reading or listening to.
